Game Of Thrones: 10 Actors' Past Roles Which Ruin Their Character

2. Charles Dance

TywinnGoT Role: Tywin Lannister Past Role: David Carlton - Ali G Indahouse When thinking about who else could have played Tywin Lannister I draw a blank. Baldness notwithstanding, it seems such an obvious choice to have cast Charles Dance. His theatrical chops and delightful baritone allow him to command whichever scene he's in with little effort. The head of the Lannisters he is a cold and calculating strategist, acting in the interests of the family's legacy and leaving all personal feelings aside. Everyone in Westeros knows to fear him, and with good reason, we've all seen the type of wedding he plans. This role is more of an outright villain than Tywin but nevertheless you'd expect whoever a Charles Dance character would face to be formidable. This is turned on its head spectacularly in his role as Deputy Prime Minister David Carlton in Ali G Indahouse. There's only one moment I really want to focus on, a scene that proves Charles Dance doesn't take himself at all seriously yet also makes it hard for me to do the same. It happens at the very end of the film €“ Carlton's plans to use Ali G in his nefarious political plan have been thwarted and his punishment for being the villain? How does an ageing English thespian in leopard print and a leather skirt sound? That's correct, the answer is terrible.
