The Stark words are unique in that they are the only ones to make a universal, and very ominous, statement about the world rather than a description of the house. But this still tells something about the character of the Starks: their natural grim pessimism, their respect for the elements and their deference to forces unknown demonstrates their foresight and wisdom. They are more concerned with preparing for the worst rather than proclaiming their superiority. Winter is Coming just sounds awe-inspiring. Of course, the irony is that while these characteristics make most of us think that the Starks are the most noble and respectable house, they are also the house that gets decimated by never-ending acts of treachery. But nevertheless, the words themselves are famous, intimidating, creative, and very cool. As Maester Aemon tells Tyrion in the show, Starks are always right eventually. Winter is coming. The Stark words are a constant cautionary warning about things to come. Now if only George R. R. Martin would be a little more kind to the Starks
