Hannibal Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

3. Hannibal: The Movie

There is another possibility that could see Fuller and Mikkelsen's return to the world of Hannibal Lecter - a movie. While there have already been five films to date that have featured everyone's favourite cannibal, we have not seen one that features Fuller's cast and indeed Fuller's unique presentation, yet.

In 2015, it was leaked that Martha De Laurentiis (producer) was attempting to raise finance for a Hannibal big screen adaptation. Said Fuller in an interview with IGN "Martha is still trying to get financing on a film... They've explored Kickstarter for a film... so there are conversations still ongoing." Given that Fuller's Hannibal is infinitely more complex than the existing movies, in a way that lends itself much more to the lengthy prose like nature of the novels, would the time limitations give Fuller and the cast enough room to breathe? Even at a two hour running time, that would be considerably shorter than the thirteen one hour long episodes the fans are used to, so perhaps not.

Martha De Laurentiis seems very keen to get moving on more Hannibal projects and a movie would seem like a more traditional route given the current and past difficulties the show has faced. Limitations can often produce some amazing work, take Jaws or even Star Wars as examples of art through adversity - a movie could effectively concentrate Hannibal down to its essence and simplify proceedings in a way more palatable to the larger distributors, making a continuation seem more of a possibility than a fan-based desire for more.
