Legion: 10 Reasons It's The Best Superhero TV Show Of All Time

1. It Doesn't Feel Like A Comic Book Show

For a show as original and unique as Legion, it only fits that it takes some liberties in regards to its handling the source material. As previously stated, the vast majority of characters in Legion are brand new, being created specifically for the show. Moreover, the narrative tells an entirely new story which is not based upon any specific arcs from the comic books. Apologies to you comic purists out there, but this was undoubtedly the right way to go.

While Legion is still a superhero show at its very core, the fiercely original characters, storytelling and visuals make it feel like something truly special. More importantly, it feels like something truly new. Moreover, this show has proven once in for all that a character who is somewhat obscure in the mainstream eye, such as Legion, can stand on his own two feet without having to rely too hard on established names.

In fact, while watching Legion, it's incredibly easy to forget that it is still an X-Men show. The only heavy-handed references to the main series don't come until very late in season one and are still kept relatively vague. Throughout most of the season, the only real reminders you get are the title screen, and the occasional use of the word "mutant."

It seems that the secret to improving upon the comic book genre as a whole, was to take a big, but meaningful step away from it to create something genuinely unique.
