Pete Campbell has always been rather cringe-inducing, with his slicked hair and slimy demeanour, he started out as the young wannabe-Don, but it now seems he has bloomed into, well, a California toff. A polo shirt with a sweater tied around his neck? Pete is now the definition of 'preppy', channeling a whole new side to himself, and yet completely what we might expect as he settles into his new Californian life. It's nice to see that, with the characters now spread across the entire country, Mad Men isn't forgetting about its leading players.
11. Don Meets A Blonde
What's that? Don and an attractive woman? Never. Like most seem to, the real-estate agent flashes her eyes at Don and hands him a card. We'll almost certainly see her again, possibly out of sunglasses and in Don's bed, but she could also facilitate Don moving out to live with Megan in LA, or at least help Megan move somewhere with a swimming pool.
10. Joan Does Joan
Joan Holloway has never shied away from a challenge, and she's gained even more confidence as the show has progressed. Now taking a meeting for Ken then following it up herself, Joan stands for no nonsense and has no problem telling Professor Irwin Podolsky exactly what she wants and making sure she gets it. Starting out as Peggy's inspiration, Joan is a brilliant representation of the female rise through business from the 60s onwards.
9. Megan Is "Nervous"
Our next clue in the puzzle that is Megan and Don's relationship, Megan insists upon turning off the lights and then stops Don kissing her in their first intimate contact since becoming reacquainted. She says this is because she's "nervous ... about everything". Of course this is referencing her big upcoming acting job (too bad she can't get her teeth fixed first), but she inconspicuously didn't deny Don's suggestion that she was nervous about being intimate with him. Nerves and Playboy? She's practically throwing him into Roger's orgy!
8. "I Forgive You"
Speaking of Roger, it seems as if he couldn't resist ruining one of the most touching moments of the episode, in which his daughter Margaret, who we have seen grow up, marry and live an adult life throughout the show, acknowledges his indiscretions and honestly forgives him. But he disagrees with what she says, so he just wants to eat his lunch. Typical Roger.
7. Don Sleeps With A Woman On A Plane
For once, this doesn't mean that Don has sex with a woman. He just sleeps with Lee Cabot, a surprising entrance to the series by Neve Campbell. Although he then gives her the brush off, after intimately discussing his previous infidelities and Megan's knowledge of them (thankfully not mentioning Sally's accidental witnessing in the last season), we can be almost certain that this kindred spirit will return before long.
I'm a British filmmaker (or, at least, trying to be) and about to graduate with a Film Studies degree. Most of the time I should spend working is actually on Netflix so I obviously have loads of life experience to share with you lovely people.
