Marvel's The Gifted: 7 Reasons To Be Excited
1. Bryan Singer Steers The Pilot
Marvel followers are sure to recognize the noteworthy names on The Gifted's roster of talented producers. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner were both involved in the high-grossing X-Men films headed by Bryan Singer.
Singer put on his director's hat again for The Gifted's pilot. After showing audiences his technical skills and emotive storytelling capabilities in multiple X-Men movies, Singer's a first-rate choice for the task. One of the highlights of X2 was the exploration of how adolescents dealt with their mutations in a less than tolerant world. Rogue, Bobby, and other underage students faced uphill battles in normal teenage situations, which Singer portrayed with total empathy.
His masterful handling of teenage mutants overcoming their insecurities in his prior works should spill over into The Gifted's first episode. Most of The Gifted's mutants aren't comfortable with their powers yet or they're discovering them for the first time. The skillful Singer possesses the ability to delve into their fears and inner conflicts without being too over-the-top. His continued presence as a producer is comforting and encouraging especially if The Gifted changes writers or directors. While he won't direct each episode, he can help guide the flow of the story and give each character their own spotlight.
If there's anyone certain to bring out the promise of The Gifted's younger set, it's the man who's made the most of his time on other X-Men sets.
