Pacing issues aside, it is still mind-boggling how well the series manages to hit all the highlights of the anime's initial arcs in such a short amount of time. One Piece is a notoriously long and well-packed story, so you really have to tip your (straw) hats to the creative crew for condensing it down so neatly.

This season of television packs in most of the major points in the East Blue Saga, and barely needs to compromise on anything. Each of the key Arcs are explored in roughly a few episodes each, yet all the most integral elements are included.

You get to see each character get solid intros and a chance to explore their backstories. It also includes most of the key villains, and the battles they have with the leads. Barring some previously mentioned omissions, this season taps into almost everything that the anime/manga has to offer.

If you're intimidated by the sheer immensity of the original series - over 1000 episodes is a tough sell even for massive anime fans - then this really is the perfect way to dip your toes in without the full commitment.
