Rick & Morty: 10 Essential Episodes EVERY Fan Should See
7. The Vat Of Acid Episode
The title of this episode should be a superfluously repellent indicator that says the creative team behind the most creative show on television have finally run out of ideas. Watching it however is an experience that plays with conventions as much as it does your heartstrings, with its sumptuous manifestation of a c plot hiding in plain sight.
The key concept is exactly how it sounds and in an almost parallel fixation to the initial thought of the creators being out of ideas; it seems like the smartest man in the universe may be too.
After a mission goes severely pear shaped and the two are forced to hide in the titular vat causing Morty to lose all confidence in Rick, he subsequently challenges him to create a device. A device that allows him to reinitialise his position and rectify his mistakes.
Of course Rick comes through and to Morty’s shock, it didn’t actually reset anything. Instead, it creates multiple parallel timelines in which all the prior events occurred; including a devastating self-contained story revolving around Morty meeting the love of his life.
This all culminates in a hilarious scene where Morty is forced to hide out in - you guessed it - a vat of acid. Heartbreak ensues once again though as Morty’s lost love finds him once again - only to witness his alleged suicide.
