Riverdale: 8 Biggest Questions We Have For Season 4

3. Can Charles Smith Be Trusted?

Riverdale Jughead Jones
The CW

The tale of Betty Cooper's long-lost brother has dominated Riverdale for the past three seasons. During that time, the writers have thrown spanners and twists into the mix in a bid to confuse and baffle us further, revealing that he was the son F.P. Jones (which also makes him Jughead's brother) only to then reveal that he was killed by Chic, essentially making us all think that the character would never surface.

However, in spite of what Chic said, he did surface... alive and well. As it turns out, Charles Smith is actually an FBI agent who has been working with his mother Alice in an attempt to take down the The Farm from within, and now that she's gone missing, he has finally revealed himself to Betty and Jughead.

In all honesty, Charles seems lovely, but is this just another ploy from the writers so that they can pull the rug out from under us when we least expect it? Could he have just been telling his siblings what they wanted to hear so he could get close to them? After all, Alice seemed completely infatuated with Edgar, so was she really undercover? On that note, wouldn't she have told Betty about Charles' existence before now?

With all that in mind, is Charles to be trusted? And what does he really think about the fact that his half-sister is in a relationship with his half-brother? Is he even their real brother?

Yes, those might sound like the ramblings of a conspiracy theorist, but that's the kind of effect that Riverdale has had on viewers for the last three years. Nothing is ever what it seems.
