Scream: 12 WTF Moments From Episode 2

8. Noah’s Monologue Of The Week

While the class is having a conversation about the Nina murder gif, Noah goes on yet another monologue, although this one isn’t meta in nature. He says that “It’s the age of Instagram and YouTube and Tumblr…we need to share the things we do, or it’s like it never happened.”

This monologue is just so on the nose. Yeah, we get it. The killer is posting pictures online because millennials are so obsessed with selfies that they just can’t stop sharing! Kids these days, right guys? You’d think someone so aware of movie and TV tropes would want to avoid the monologue that explains the thesis of the show directly to the audience.

It’s also getting kind of creepy how much joy Noah is taking in this, and actually it’s not just him. Jake makes a comment about the “murder selfie” with a smirk, and then Mr. Branson refers to Noah as Will Graham and asks him to explain the killer’s design. They’re talking about this like it’s some murder that they saw on TV, not the murder of a girl who went to this school and who literally has a memorial right outside. What teacher would be talking about the murder of a girl who many people in the class knew by using a Hannibal reference?
