10 Minor Scrubs Characters Who Were Major Assets

4. The Worthless Peons

Okay, so this is cheating a little bit. They€™re four characters, one of whom is one of the most well-known staples in the show€™s secondary cast. But although the Worthless Peons are seen in every one of the show€™s seasons, they only crop up in a meagre sixteen episodes. And because they never fully integrate into ongoing storylines in the same way as figures like Sean Kelly, they€™re worthy of mention on this list of minor heroes. The Worthless Peons are, of course, alter-egos of Sam Lloyd€™s a cappella group The Blanks, who have released two albums and occasionally tour the live circuit outside the Scrubs-verse. Bill Lawrence apparently decided to incorporate the band into his series after they performed at one of the show€™s early Christmas parties. From there, the Worthless Peons have become something of a ubiquitous presence in Sacred Heart, popping up at inopportune intervals to deliver tuneful - though neverending - renditions of classics. In eight years, we€™ve seen the Peons come a long way, running the gamut from cartoon theme songs to covers of prime time shows, commercial jingles, and classic movie scores. Although only occasionally are they drawn into narrative webs (such as when they spar off against the Janitor€™s rival group, Hibbleton), they have become integrated into the show€™s soundtrack, enriching episodes such as €˜My Way Home€™ and €˜My Best Friend€™s Wedding€™ with their own brand of wonky but strangely enjoyable harmonising. Best Tune: Playing off €˜My Soul on Fire€™ with a cute homespun version of €˜Hey Ya€™.
