Season three came at you with more surprises than Christmas morning, but one of the biggest had to be the relationship between Otis and Ruby.

This was something that found its footing in season two, as Otis lost his virginity to the popular girl, and the two had some surprisingly good chemistry. Then, in the next season, what seemed like a throwaway moment turned into a whole plotline, as Otis and Ruby began having sex secretly before committing to being a couple.

There was, naturally, plenty of tension and awkwardness. But, the most devastating moment came after Ruby introduced Otis to her home life, told him she loved him and was met with "oh, that's nice."

The storyline was fantastic because it added a tonne of depth to Ruby. Season one made her out to be a typical mean girl, but delving into her home life and romantic attachments made her far more three-dimensional.

Hell, plenty of fans hope that Otis will end up with Ruby by the end instead of Maeve. So, it's safe to say this narrative really got people hooked.
