Sherlock Series 4: 10 Things You Need To Know
7. Episode Titles
Sherlock’s episode titles are always fascinating, as fans can usually glean a lot about the episode from which original Holmes story it is based off. Though Moffat and Gatiss have said in the past that Series Four would be mostly new material, the two titles we know so far definitely derive from Conan Doyle’s writing.
Episode one is The Six Thatchers, which recalls short story The Six Napoleons – a case where six identical busts of Napoleon are found smashed. Presumably in the modern version, they will be busts of Margaret Thatcher.
However, there is more to it than that. The Six Thatchers is actually a case that can be found on John Watson’s real-life blog. Is the blog post a blueprint for the episode, or will it only have the title in common?
Secondly, episode two is The Lying Detective – a spin on The Dying Detective. I’ll leave it to your imaginations to guess what happens in that one…
