Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Best Forest Rangers Songs

3. Boots Of Spanish Leather - Amos Lee & The Forest Rangers

To take a Bob Dylan song and make it your own is something that if done correctly can become iconic. All Along The Watchtower, Like a Rolling Stone and Knockin' on Heaven's Door are all examples that spring to mind. All of those songs were covered, at one time or another, by rock bands, and Boots of Spanish Leather is taken and stripped back. It's hard to strip back a song featuring vocals and a guitar I know, but by God, The Forest Rangers and Amos Lee did it and did it well.

Despite having no real chorus to speak of, this song can't help but get stuck in your head. The vocals of Amos Lee are almost haunting and the overall sound of the track is like that of a hymn. His vocal performance is that good that I wouldn't have been surprised if they had just used the vocals alone for the show.

It's a song that just makes you sit and wonder, what could have been, 'if only' this, but 'what if' that, and is used perfectly at the start of the 10th episode in season 7 "Faith and Despondency," where we see the show's main characters in various stages of lovemaking, looking very remorseful, taking stock of their situation. Jax eventually breaks down to tears with his partner, Gemma knows her time is coming, Juice is in jail being raped again, Wendy is flying solo and Tig is with his new girlfriend in a scene that still amazes me as I can only see Walton Goggins as his character from The Shield - a testament to that actor that he can make his role as Venus Van Dam entirely believable.

This song at this point in the episode is essentially the calm before the storm. We know the waters are about to get rocky and things will change forever. However, we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
