Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Best Forest Rangers Songs
2. Gimmie Shelter - Paul Brady & The Forest Rangers
Much like covering Bob Dylan, covering The Rolling Stones is a hard task. To do that well is even harder, that's why you don't often see great covers of Stones songs. They do exist, however, and this should be the crown jewel of them all.
A lot of the songs that The Forest Rangers cover are not too far from the original material; this is one of the examples of taking a song, deconstructing it, finding the key building blocks of it, and rebuilding it with your own cement. Gimmie Shelter is one of my favourite Rolling Stones songs ever, maybe even my favourite, and I never thought I'd see anyone attempt to cover it, let alone put their own stamp on it.
It's a massive compliment to The Forest Rangers to just how good this song is. Appearing at the very end of Season 2 episode 13 as Jax desperately chases the man that has kidnapped his son, forcing Clay to spare the man that ordered the rape of his wife in order to try and help prevent the kidnap of his step-grandchild, the pacing of the song builds on the suspense and tension. Until that boat leaves the dock you are on the edge of your seat, having no idea if Jax will rescue his son, who up to this point has been through a hell of a lot in his young life.
Sadly the Irishman gets away, fleeing to Belfast with the son of the Vice President of the Sons of Anarchy. What a way for the season to end, and we know that Season 3 will see Jax stop at nothing to get his boy back.
