9. Gemma Gets Raped By White Supremacists
One of the things about Sons of Anarchy and the very grey shades of morality portrayed on the show is that the creators always make a point to paint the real villains in the harshest light. At no time is that more apparent than when the show features the group of violent white supremacists known as the League of American Nationalists.
L.O.A.N. hide behind their facade as honest cigar salesmen, but when you peel back the disguise they're one of the most repugnant organizations in a series full of them. This is most obvious in the season 2 premiere when the group kidnaps Gemma - who has yet to descend into the full-on scoundrel that she becomes in later seasons - and take turns raping her.
It's a terribly unsettling scene and quite difficult to sit through, and for a show that was only just in its second season, continued to raise the bar for how far Kurt Sutter and his team were willing to go to get a shock out of the audience.
