South Park: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
8. Season 11 (2007)
As we've seen already, multi-parters can make or break a season of South Park. Season 11 happened to include the very best multi-episode story Parker and Stone have ever created: Imaginationland, the peak of the show's second era style of totally overblown drama, Cartman's narcissism, and well-integrated cultural references all woven together. Imaginationland gives us everything we love about South Park, and that starts with the boys' relationships to each other and to the world.
Cartman's rivalry with Kyle hits its zenith, with his selfish motivations playing an important role in national-scale politics; Kyle and Stan's friendship manifests itself in a telepathic connection across dimensions; and Butters, normally so naïve, finds himself in a vital role. The callbacks to previous episodes of the show also make Imaginationland a sort of love letter to the fans, with the Woodland Critters and ManBearPig playing important parts in the story. The rest of the season is good, if not spectacular.
Many of the episodes rely too much on being exact parodies of other situations, with Guitar Queer-O borrowing from every hackneyed diva musician story, The Snuke taking on 24 directly, and D-Yikes! basically mocking 300 moment for moment. That said, there are still a few excellent individual entries in the season, like With Apologies to Jesse Jackson and Le Petit Tourette.
With Imaginationland carrying the banner for the season and a number of decent episodes backing it up, Season 11 is one of the better seasons in South Park history, but a discerning eye can pick up signs of the show's impending decline.
Best Episode: Imaginationland
Worst Episode: Lice Capades
