Star Trek: 10 Biggest Takeaways From Open A Channel: A Woman's Trek
5. Brannon Braga's Reflections
Brannon Braga was instrumental in crafting Star Trek: Enterprise, having joined the franchise earlier as an intern on The Next Generation. He co-wrote Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: First Contact, co-created Star Trek: Voyager, and also introduced Seven Of Nine to the universe.
Looking back on his time on Enterprise, Braga described himself as exhausted when speaking to Visitor. He was approached by Rick Berman to develop the show, even though he would have preferred more time to let ideas germinate. This rush to get something out led to a lack of real planning with the characters.
He credited Linda Park for doing the best that she could do with the little the team did for Hoshi Sato. Enterprise, he felt, fell victim to complacency when it came to women in Star Trek. I'm paraphrasing here, but to them, it felt like they had slapped themselves on the back for all of the good work they had done with Star Trek: Voyager, so with that already existent, Enterprise could coast.
History has proven this not to be the case - neither Park nor Jolene Blalock are interviewed in the book, with the latter having stepped away from the franchise several years before. Braga owns this fact that Enterprise let them both down
