In the run of The Next Generation, Worf was said to be a fearsome warrior, though one who kept a Starfleet moral compass. While there were occasions that saw him act outside of the Starfleet charter, he was generally the right one for the job. Except, it seems, for all of those times when he was useless.

The many denials of Worf has become something of an internet meme, with users counting the amount of times he was told be quiet, told no, and generally dismissed out of hand. Unfortunately, having Worf beaten became a bit of a trope during the show's run - because he was supposed to be so strong.

Rascals is one such example. Having Worf - a sizeable Klingon officer - taken down so easily by a Ferengi was, in a word, ridiculous. Now don't get us wrong - a weapon in the wrong hands can be far deadlier than anticipated - but so much of the episode is played for comedy that it almost looks as though Worf let the Ferengi shoot him. While the implications of that are too much to consider, the frequent crippling of this officer became an easy joke over on the Enterprise, so it's a small blessing that Deep Space Nine got to expand the character just a little bit better.
