Star Trek Characters That Need To Meet Each Other (Somehow)

5. Dal And Una

dal and una

Dal R’El may have been given a commission to serve as a warrant officer in training, and then a field commission aboard the USS Prodigy, but his future in Starfleet looked bleak before Admiral Janeway’s intervention. One of the longest-standing laws in Starfleet was the barring of any genetically engineered person from entering the service, with several exceptions made during the years.

Dal, upon discovering he was the result of a genetic combination of various different races, was initially thrilled to learn of his past. Gwyn, understanding more of the world than he, knew that this could have meant curtains for his hopes to join Starfleet.

Imagine now a meeting, through the holodeck, of Dal and Una Chin-Riley. Her own history and case would seem to be the template for his journey. She, too, was genetically engineered, having kept her status hidden during her Academy and early Starfleet career days. She did eventually come forward, leading to a landmark court case in Ad Astra Per Aspera

She became, as Boimler and Mariner later revealed, the poster girl in Starfleet - literally the face of recruitment. For this to centre on a genetically augmented individual, this story of acceptance, perseverance, and growth would be one of the most important lessons that young Dal could learn. As an audience, we’ve already seen one animated version of Una - why not a second?
