Star Trek Deep Space Nine Cast: Where Are They Now?

14. Gul Dukat - Marc Alaimo

Gul Dukat
CBS

Marc Alaimo is most recognisable to most Star Trek fans as Gul Dukat, the evil leader of the Cardassian Union and then later the Pah-Wraith acolyte. His slow manner of speaking hooked audiences from the beginning, though Dukat was not his first role on Trek. He has the honour of being the first modern Romulan seen on screen and the first Cardassian as Gul Macet.

The look of the Cardassians is inspired on his long neck. Make-up designed Michael Westmore designed the ridges to rise along his collar.

In the years since Deep Space Nine finished, Alaimo has stayed away from the spotlight somewhat. His only television credit since finishing is a role on Family Guy in 2010. His film credits date back to before his time on the show, including Total Recall, where he played a Martian security officer and The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.

He has continued to work on stage, using his role as Gul Dukat as inspiration for much of his work since then. Alaimo has the distinction of being probably the most developed villain in all of Star Trek, as Dukat appeared in 33 separate episodes, where his story went from shady Cardassian soldier to the harbinger of doom by the show's finale. He, along with his co-stars, recently appeared in What We Left Behind, where he admitted he had felt a little underappreciated by the producers while on the show. Be that as it may, Dukat remains a firm fan favourite character.
