Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best

19. Lt. Ezri Dax

Nicole de Boer stepped into the role of Dax for the seventh and final season, a job that could quite quickly have become something of a nightmare if things had gone badly. Jadzia Dax was a fan favourite character and had only been killed off thanks to some poor behind the scenes relations.

The threads that were left to pick up then by Ezri were the friendship with Sisko, the relationships with Julian, Quark and Kira and of course Worf. The difference between Ezri and Jadzi could not have been more noticeable in her dealings with the Klingon, not least in the fact that she doesn't have anything like the same respect for Klingon culture as her former host.

Ezri is willful and idealistic, inexperienced and yet open and friendly. Her first patient as station's counselor is Garak, which is like putting a brand new boxer in a ring with Ali.

The assignment however does them both well and Ezri begins to grow more comfortable on the station. As there is such a short time left in the show, several episodes in the season are devoted to her and her backstory, allowing us to get to know her in rather a short amount of time.

She may have been more nervous that Jadzia, yet she holds her own when it comes to battle and duty. A worthy successor.
