Star Trek: Discovery - Ups And Downs For Season 3 Episode 4 Forget Me Not

2. Captain Saru (UP)

Star Trek Discovery Saru
CBS

Saru is really coming into the role of Captain, as he commands Discovery and attempts to find out where the Federation are hiding. However, he listens to Culber when he tells Saru that the crew need something other than a task to complete. They need hope and they need something uplifting. Saru then gives the crew the night off, while inviting the bridge crew (and Georgiou) to dinner in the ready room.

While the dinner is a varying affair, seeing Saru take on the responsibility of command is a refreshing direction for the Kelpian. While he has grown immeasurably over the course of the show, thus leading the audience to know what he is capable of, seeing him act on these new responsibilities is something that is an excellent addition.

There is a tiny bum note to the episode, wherein he effectively asks Ensign Tilly how he is doing. This is akin to Janeway asking Harry Kim if she's doing a good job, so this did stand out a bit.

However, overall, Saru continues to nail the position.
