Star Trek: Every Chief Engineer Ranked

4. Geordi La Forge

Being Chief Engineer on board the USS Enterprise comes with its challenges, like any ship. Yet, ships named Enterprise do tend to have the more...interesting missions, to say the least!

Geordi served on the Enterprise from its launch, initially in the role of Conn officer. Once it became apparent that the Galaxy class ship couldn't keep a Chief for longer than a week, he ditched the red for the gold and took over, remaining in the role until the ship's destruction over Veridian III, moving with the rest of the crew to become Chief Engineer on board the Enterprise-E.

Throughout his tenure, he would save the ship dozens of times, often from enemy fire and occasionally from system failure. One of his most memorable saves came from his teaming up with Captain Scott, wherein he learned a few things about flexibilty.

Geordi was the quintessential nice-but-professional Chief Engineer. He was more than capable of making the tough calls and speaking his mind when the situation called for it, though he was a team player as well. He did struggle occasionally, particularly with Lt. Barclay, but his friendships won out in the end.

He was perhaps most unlucky in love, a trait that did affect his worklife. When the ship was snared by the Menthar booby trap, he works with a holographic representation of Dr. Leah Brahms to save the Enterprise. Mixing business and pleasure comes back to haunt him when the Dr. Brahms discovers his program - a little awkward, to say the least!
