Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST

13. Ellen Landry - USS Discovery

Commander Landry did manage to last a little longer than others on this list, but not by much. Just a few episodes into Discovery, she met her untimely end at the claws of 'Ripper'. Maybe she should have thought twice about calling the tardigrade that...

But we have to ask, was anyone particularly sad when she was rippered?

Harsh, yes, but from the moment we meet her, she comes across as more than just rude. She feels outright mean at times. Not to mention there's an air of cruelty about her we can't quite put our finger on.

The way she speaks to Burnham and the other prisoners when they come aboard is unnecessarily degrading. Prisoners or not, we would hope that by the 23rd century Starfleet officers would have learnt to treat people...all people...with dignity.

And then there's her attitude to the tardigrade. The fact that a live creature was horribly exploited on a Starfleet vessel is a whole other problem, but Landry's ruthlessness in caring only about its usefulness was chilling. And it's her determination to resort to violence and cut off the creature's claws that ultimately leads to her demise.

In retrospect, Lorca's true identity makes us wonder if he nurtured a mean streak he sensed in her. Or maybe having someone like Landry as his chief of security was meant to be a clue that Lorca's not like other captains. Regardless, we're not sure we would have wanted her around for much longer, one way or another.
