Star Wars Rebels Season 3: 6 Big Things We Still Haven't Seen
3. The Darksaber
In the closing frames of the Season 3 trailer, fans got a glimpse of Sabine wielding the famous Darksaber, a relic of Mandalore and last seen in The Clone Wars. The weapon previously belonged to Pre Vizsla, former leader of the extremist group Deathwatch before being claimed by Maul himself after defeating the Mandalorian in a trial-by-combat.
From the episode, The Protector of Concord Dawn, we know that Sabine has ties to House Vizsla and that her mother was a member of Deathwatch. Speculation concerning Sabine’s family has of course been conducted and it has been popularly suggested that Sabine is either a descendant of Pre Vizsla himself, or a relation to Bo Katan, former member of Deathwatch and sister to the former Duchess Satine of Mandalore.
Katee Sackhoff (who voice Bo Katan) has already been confirmed to be reprising her character on Star Wars Rebels this season and her return will not doubt cast some light over these rumours.
It’s doubtful that we will be seeing the Darksaber make his appearance next week in the Mandalorian episode, Imperial Supercommandos. The Darksaber was last in the possession of Maul as he fled into the galaxy and why he did not have it when he returned in Twilight of the Apprentice is a mystery.
But if Maul is indeed heading back to Mandalore, it could be where the Darksaber has been hidden. And being such an important relic to Mandalore, Sabine would no doubt want to reclaim it for her people and perhaps avenge the death of Pre Vizsla.
But with images of Sabine being possessed by Nightsister magic and wielding the Darksaber in the same environment, there is nothing but trouble awaiting our Rebels.
