Star Wars Rebels Season 3: 6 Big Things We Still Haven't Seen

2. Return To Lothal

Star Wars Rebels Lothal

Lothal has been the base planet for most of Star Wars Rebels. It’s where the Ghost crew originally based their operations, it’s Ezra’s home and where he grew up and even houses a hidden Jedi Temple, now in ruins after the events of Shroud of Darkness. It’s also the system that Governor Pryce is in charge of protecting and the reason Grand Admiral Thrawn has been brought into the equation. So it was only a matter of time before the Rebels found their way back home.

But here’s the interesting bit:

The synopsis for this season hints at the Rebels gearing up for their first official strike against the Empire. Up until now they have been steadily increasing their forces, collecting assets and building bases, but they have yet to make a significant strike against them that sparks off the Galactic Civil War. And with the series creeping closer and closer to A New Hope (and now Rogue One), it can’t be far away.

Lothal would be the perfect target for their first liberation mission. It’s tactical, but also personal for the Rebels. They left Lothal to grow stronger, with the idea of coming back and helping the people left behind. One way or another they will find themselves back on Lothal. Disjointed images throughout the trailer show conflict on the planet’s surface, Ezra and Kanan in disguises breaking in to what looks like an Imperial facility and an attack on an AT-ST walker on the highway leading to Capital city.

It makes sense that the Rebels would choose Lothal and is likely to be right before the mid-season break, or even the actual finale. But let’s not forget that Thrawn is still around. He’s already been piecing together information on the Rebel’s tactics, history and method of warfare. If the Rebels do look to liberate Lothal, Thrawn will be prepared to unleash everything that he has at them and deliver a devastating blow. Where else is better to show his talents at the ruthless and brilliant battle commander he is known to be?

It’s also worth noting that the opening crawl to A New Hope details that the Rebellion had only just achieved their first victory against the Empire. Rogue One implies that this victory was stealing the plans for the Death Star, but with that knowledge, can Phoenix squadron be victorious?
