Supergirl Season 2: 8 Easter Eggs & References You Might've Missed In 'The Adventures Of Supergirl'

1. John Corben's Connections

Supergirl Gotham Mon El
DC Comics

As becomes obvious in the final moments of the episode, villain- of-the-week John Corben is usually known by the supervillain moniker Metallo – a cyborg powered by a Kryptonian heart. See, J’onn, Kryptonite is bad.

The unknown woman who brings him back to life works for Project: Cadmus. Previously mentioned in season one as the kidnappers of Jeremiah Danvers, Cadmus is a shady organisation featured in the comics and multiple animated series. It is perhaps most known for creating Superboy, a teenage clone of Kal-El.

Earlier in the episode, Alex gives Kara a run-down of Corben’s criminal past. Naturally, this is full of comics references. Firstly, as well as working for Lex Luthor, Corben apparently has links to Intergang – a group of mobsters armed with Apokoliptian tech given to them by Darkseid. He’s also pals with Kasnian terrorists – a fictional central European country frequently mentioned on Arrow. Last but not least, Corben helped cause a genocide in Corto Maltese – a fictional South American country this time, it was previously mentioned in the 1989 Batman movie (Vicki Vale was there before coming to Gotham).
