Supergirl Season 5 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs From Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part 1
2. Subverting Our Expectations
It's been said multiple times before but, hey why not say it again one more time: Oliver Queen's death in Crisis On Infinite Earths was a certainty. It had been prophesised for a year, and the Emerald Archer knew exactly what he was willing to risk for those that he loved. That being said, it's no overstatement to say that Oliver's death at the conclusion of the first installment caught everyone off-guard.
Whether or not its final remains to be seen - the idea of four more installments without the Green Arrow seems silly and, more than that, unlikely - but it was oddly wise to have it happen so immediately. Not only does a major death like this reinforce the stakes that an event as major as the Crisis carries, it removes the obvious from the situation and leaves us in the dark as to what comes next.
An unexpected cliffhanger? Yes, but a very, very clever one.
