With no disrespect to any of the other names confirmed to take charge in season two, the most exciting of the bunch has got to be the veteran visionary auteur, making his small-screen directorial return six years after he last helmed in the medium with Matador.

The Sin City filmmaker has always been a popular pick with genre fans and last year's Alita: Battle Angel proved - for many diehards at least - that he still knows how to craft a glorious slice of pulpy sci-fi escapism.

Now he will get his chance to play in the biggest sandbox of them all - and the Texan, who is preparing superhero jaunt We Can Be Heroes for Disney+ rival streamer Netflix, is sure to bring something of his distinctive aura to the world of Mando out on the edges of the galaxy.
