Movie Parody: Cape Fear (1991)

Sideshow Bob is one of the show’s greatest supporting villains - he’s clever, witty, sadistic and portrayed excellently by the velvety voiced Kelsey Grammer. He’s been called back for many escapades within The Simpsons lives, from Sideshow Bob Roberts to Brother From Another Series. However, the writers never utilised him better than in the season five episode Cape Feare.

Here, Bob is once again seeking mortal revenge on the ten year old mischief maker Bart Simpson. The overall storyline follows the same basic plot line of Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear remake, with some moments being a shot by shot recreation of certain scenes from the original. Furthermore, the producers took certain musical elements from Bernard Herrmann's film score and used it for the parody episode, which thereafter became Sideshow Bob's theme.

And Cape Feare is (debatably) the show's funniest episode ever, with so many hilarious visual pieces and clever jokes packed into every second of each scene, not forgetting the infamous Bob stepping on rakes sequence.
