Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 1 Down From ‘Ghosts’

1. Deathstroke The Terminator

Titans Deathstroke Slade Wilson

If there's one thing the Titans writers are exceptional at - it's building up a threat without actually using said threat. They pulled it off really well last season with Trigon, heightening our anticipation of his eventual arrival, but it's clear that they've definitely upped the ante with this season's Big Bad Deathstroke.

From Jason's bewildered stare when he saw Slade Wilson's picture on the screen to the way that Curran Walters expertly utters the word "Deathstroke" - as though he knows that, every time he does so, it sends a chill down our spines - the show has successfully relied on subtleties to create a sense of dread surrounding the character while keeping actor Esai Morales off-screen for the most part.

That method continued to prove successful in this week's installment, as the original Titan members' arguments over the destruction of their team were laced with subtext that heavily implied Deathstroke was responsible for everything falling apart - something that is supported by the fact that Dick clearly doesn't want to share these events, or Deathstroke himself, with the new team.

This was all very effective in making us, as viewers, fear Slade before we even saw him in costume and that ultimately made his debut appearance as Deathstroke all the more chilling. We didn't need to see what he did to Jason, because at this point, we already knew what he was capable of.

Less is more, and this was a perfect example of that.
