WandaVision Episode 8 Easter Eggs EXPLAINED - What's The Real Meaning Behind MCU Scarlet Witch?

1. "I Can't Feel You"

WandaVision Episode Eight

So obviously one of the best things about WandaVision is all the theorising and the fan discuss about what it means for all the multiverse and so on and so on, but at its core it's still a superb examination of trauma, loss, grief, and survivor's guilt.

It's been emotionally wrought to watch at times and episode eight was by far the most upsetting, showing us Wanda's losses, and the grief she has for the loved ones who were so unfairly taken away. (By the way, that line from Vision - "what is grief but love persevering?" - absolutely heartbreaking.)

Wanda's pain reaches a tipping point once she confronts Director Haywood at SWORD, who is... GOD he is awful. Whatever your thoughts on human android relationships, buddy, you can't just call Wanda's literal loved one a weapon, or reduce him to how much his parts are worth or whatever. Wanda has to see her partner torn apart and mangled on an operating table and it's truly awful to watch.

When she says enough is enough and jumps down to try and protect her partner's corpse, she puts her hand to his face and says "I can't feel you". This is pretty upsetting all on its own but even more so when you remember the last words Vision ever said to her in Avengers: Infinity War was "I just feel you".

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
