Westworld: 8 Flaws That Could Totally Ruin It
6. The Little Inconsistencies Are Beginning To Pile Up
Look, nobody is expecting Westworld, a sci-fi show, to provide every detail and answer every tiny, niggling question about its world. But when the show establishes laws and then begins to break them - or bend them to the point of distraction - then there's a problem.
What do I mean? Well, we were told that Hosts supposedly can't harm guests. We saw them punch, push and tackle at the start of the season. Yet, now this has escalated dramatically, with Hosts pistol whipping guests to knock them unconscious, or Maeve slicing open the Man in Black's throat, among other things. How is this safe or approved?
Another thing: we've seen bodies being retrieved from the main town a few times, but what about the bodies that are literally hundreds of miles away? Those in the wilderness that have visible flesh decay?
Why haven't they been collected? Who collects them, and how?
And then there's the premise of loops, upon which the Hosts are supposedly founded. Many Hosts have now been out of their loops for seemingly days on end, like Dolores and Teddy. Why don't the people running the park care? Especially when such a big deal was made about ensuring their consistency at the start (replacing Dolores' father with a new model).
At present, these things pale in comparison to the storytelling, but the more questions that crop up, the harder it is to focus one-hundred percent on the main story.
The show needs to slow down for a minute and allow room for explanation, lest the world's believability be ruined.
