20 Worst Moments In Modern Doctor Who (According To YOU)

1. The Burping Bin (Rose)

Although Doctor Who’s 2005 revival was an undeniable success there were definitely some teething issues – chiefly an inconsistent tone, where the show would mostly be grounded and dramatic but occasionally very very silly.

Of all the examples in that first year, the most jarring is, by far, the burping bin in Rose.

This is the go-to sequence for many fans when naming their least-favourite moments in the revival, and it's easy to see why it's so unfondly remembered. Again it's a case of CGI having not aged well, which is a fair enough criticism, but you also can't blame them for the technology they had at the time.

But what you can't forgive is that someone then thought, “You know what this needs? A great big comedy belch”.

This was the show’s big return to our screens – a chance to prove that it wasn’t just a silly old hokey sci-fi show and deserved to be taken seriously. So to include toilet humour of this level was potentially a bit of a risk to the show's survival. Just look at the juvenile tone of Space Babies and how that damaged the perception of the Disney era!

It’s the kind of thing that would be totally at home in the upcoming CBeebies animated series. But please never unleash anything like this on television Doctor Who again.
