20 Worst Moments In Modern Doctor Who (According To YOU)
16. Ryan Plays Call Of Duty (The Ghost Monument)
With its sunny South Africa location filming, The Ghost Monument is one beautiful looking episode. But the moment everything comes to a halt so Ryan can go and pretend he’s in Call of Duty isn’t the greatest thing ever, is it?
In pretty much every single regard it feels wrong, as if we’ve briefly strayed into a completely different TV show.
Aside from the question of whether Ryan would seriously be stupid enough to do something like this in the first place, why doesn't the Doctor try harder to stop him? Oh, that's why – Chibnall needed a moment to further hammer home the "guns are bad" message, and forcing this sequence of utter nonsense was the best he could do to make that happen.
The bullets vs brawn thing feels like a very textbook, oversimplified take on the Doctor’s moral code. No one’s defending Ryan’s actions… but it does all feel a tad patronising. And pointless. Surely there are better ways to show that the Doctor doesn’t approve of guns?
Also the SniperBots are meant to be highly skilled, precise and effective guards. But they can’t shoot this human when he's right in front of them? Come on!
