10 Craziest Chris Jericho Stories You Won't Believe

7. Punching HBK's Wife

The feud between Jericho and his real-life idol, Shawn Michaels throughout 2008 won a plethora of awards, and certainly helped carry the company through the vast majority of the year. Meeting in four stellar singles matches at Judgment Day, The Great American Bash, Unforgiven and No Mercy, Jericho and HBK would also interact on other Pay-Per-Views, including Backlash and - most famously - Summerslam. For weeks, Shawn Michaels had teased a major announcement at Summerslam, one which turned out to be a mock retirement from in-ring competition. Accompanied down to the ring by his wife, Rebecca, Michaels had a tear in everyone's eye, before ultra-heel Jericho ruined the moment. Strutting down to ringside, Jericho announced that he wouldn't let Michaels retire without admitting that it was because of the beatings he had given him. Trying to sucker punch HBK, Jericho instead ended up clocking his wife - this was planned, but what wasn't, was the real thump that Jericho ended up giving Rebecca. There was heat between Michaels and Jericho afterwards, but Rebecca famously remarked backstage, "is that all you've got, Jericho?", which smoothed things over. Who knows what must have been going through Chris Jericho's mind after he had thrown the punch, he must have figured he was in for a fight once he got back through the curtain.
