10 Familiar Faces AEW Should Sign

1. Wade Barrett

After the aforementioned release from WWE, Barrett (now known as Stu Bennett) joined the commentary team for none other than What Culture Pro Wrestling, since rebranded as Defiant Wrestling. He later even became general manager, solidifying his place as a legend in WCPW’s history.

A tremendous talker standing well above six feet tall, it is rather mind-blowing that Barrett never got his reign at the top. Not counting his days as King Barrett, of course.

But it seems that he is a sufferer of the “Nexus curse”, the only real success story (in WWE, at least) of that original group being Daniel Bryan. Which in and of itself is a shocking premise given how refreshing and genius that storyline and stable was, largely due to Wade’s leadership.

Luckily, AEW may be the better home anyway. Giving him the freedom to cut his own promos would be an excellent showcase of the now Bennett’s greatest strength. And rather than a run at the Intercontinental championship, which has lost a HUGE amount of the prestige it once had, we could see Stu Bennett become AEW’s top champion. Top of the card should have always been in the cards for him, and this is his ticket there.

With no current contract for Bennett, he could very well be part of the unannounced 60% of AEW's roster. And that means a huge potential star for the upstart company. And more competition for, ironically considering his origin, NXT.

So sorry WWE, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.
