Vince spent a few million dollars on his newest investment, and he wanted to start making money with it right away. Due to most of the major players in WCW having contracts with Time Warner, they were unable to make the jump, unless Vince really wanted to open up his wallet to buy out their deals, and then have to pay the wrestlers again to come to work for him.

So while the boss did sink some money into the brand, had he simply waited, he would have made many, many times more than what he got out of his investment. The Invasion pay-per-view went down on July 22nd, 2001. Seven months later, Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash joined the company. Those three alone would have made a world of difference. Then six months after that, Scott Steiner was free and came in too. Hell, the day AFTER the angle ended, Ric Flair joined the WWF!

Imagine Hogan, Hall, Nash, Booker T and DDP going up against the WWF at the Inaugural Brawl, instead of The Dudleyz and Rhyno. It would have felt far more like a real war between rival companies, and got the entire angle off to an immensely bigger start.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
