10 Misfit WWE Tag Teams That You'll Never Forget
7. Austin & HBK / Austin & Dude Love
When Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels teamed up to take on Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith for the Tag Team Titles on Raw, few believed the two men could co-exist, let alone win. But win they did and the "oil and water" partnership of 'The Rattlesnake' and 'The Heartbreak Kid' were officially co-holders of the Tag Team Championship.
Interestingly, the partners squared off, one-on-one, at King of the Ring '97; however, Michaels was forced to vacate his title due to injury soon after. As a result, Austin was forced to defend the gold with a new partner on July 14th. Drifting from one strange bedfellow to another, the misfit connection continued in an entirely different guise when the injured HBK was replaced by the debuting Dude Love.
Before Austin could voice his objections, 'The Dude' was strutting the aisle like a lovechild of Terry Funk and Billy Graham. While the contrast may have been staggering, the combination proved golden and the Texas/Tie-dye tandem laid waste to the Hart Foundation two minutes later.
In a reversal of misfortune, Austin would be the one to surrender the title this time, after suffering a career-shortening piledriver at the hands of Owen Hart at SummerSlam. The titles were officially vacated at IYH 17, bringing an end to Austin's 104 day run as Tag Champ.
