10 Mistakes WWE Has Made With WrestleMania 33
5. The SmackDown Women's Kerfuffle
The blue brand has done a stellar job of making its Women’s division feel like a deeper, more varied one than its RAW counterpart, so it’s bizarre to see them throw all of that out the window with a multi-woman mish-mash of a title bout. It’s understandable that WWE wants as many hard-working stars on that card as possible, but in doing so, it feels as though they’ve hamstrung what could have otherwise been a solid story between Alexa Bliss and Mickie James.
That’s where the animosity is currently strongest in the division, since Alexa went back on her promise to offer Mickie a title match.
By needlessly shoehorning Becky Lynch, Carmella, and whoever else winds up making an appearance (don’t be shocked to see Kelly Kelly or Eva Marie show up), you’re intentionally cooling what could have been a hot angle.
It’s hard to get too bent out of shape about this – WWE probably had big plans involving Alexa and Naomi before she was side-lined due to injury – but with this being the SmackDown women's first chance to shine at WrestleMania, a match with fewer participants - and a more carefully constructed story - would have been preferable.
