9. WWE Marches On Post-9/11

Vince McMahon and his 'the show must go on' leadership is another part of WWE's product that occasionally catches some flak. In September 2001 however, it showed unity and spread a message to terrorism that American spirit would not budge; even those who roll eyes at WWE's patriotic support must have been impressed.

Two days after planes had crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, McMahon rallied his troops and presented the first (sizeable) post-9/11 public assembly on SmackDown in Houston, Texas. The statement was clear: wrestling, as a form of entertainment, had a responsibility to prove there was hope and people could pick up the pieces.

It was a bold move considering the circumstances.

Don't forget that WWE's backstage staff and roster would have been terrified of the events happening just 48 hours earlier. For them to march on and try to present a program that promoted optimism and faith that things would get better was incredibly brave.
