Turning on your tag team partner ranks pretty highly on the list of unforgivable acts, but turning on your own brother? Surely that’s on a whole other level.

Not that it deterred Owen Hart at the 1994 Royal Rumble, when he betrayed his brother Bret after they’d failed to win the Tag Team Championships from the Quebecers.

Truth be told, tension had been mounting between the brothers for a little while beforehand. At the 1993 Survivor Series, Owen had been the only member of the Hart family to be eliminated in their match against Shawn Michaels and His Knights. This had led to Owen challenging Bret to a one-on-one match to prove himself, but Bret rejected on the grounds that they were brothers, and they went after tag team gold instead.

But with Bret nursing a leg injury after that match, an injury which had resulted in their defeat in the first place, Owen reached his breaking point. After delivering a lengthy tirade to his brother, Owen would eventually sweep out Bret’s bad leg from underneath him, and in doing so commence one of the greatest sibling rivalries in all of WWE history.
