10 Possible Swerves For The 2016 WWE Royal Rumble

2. Batista Enters At No. 30

Needless to say, Batista's 2014 Royal Rumble win didn't get over the way officials had hoped. Despite Batista pleading management to come back as a heel, the role he has always worked better win, WWE insisted he return as the conquering babyface hero and win the Rumble, not taking into consideration Daniel Bryan's surging popularity at the time. As a result, the Pittsburgh crowd poo-pooed all over his victory and the rest of his run was tarnished. Toward the end of his tenure, however, he flipped the script and found his stride as a heel in Evolution. Just as he was building momentum, he had to leave (or "quit" in storyline) to promote "Guardians of the Galaxy." He hasn't been back since due to his acting career taking off, but it's believed he will return eventually because of his passion for pro wrestling. Besides, he has unfinished business with The Authority and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As a matter of fact, if there was ever a time for him to resurface in storyline, it would be now seeing as how he would have the opportunity to win the world title in his return match in the Rumble. It wouldn't be necessary for him to capture the gold, mind you, but so far as to eliminate Triple H, Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar (dream match alert!) could set up something for him at WrestleMania. This is all dependent on what his schedule looks like over the next few months, but with AJ Styles potentially debuting, Chris Jericho being back and others possibly returning, he's been left out of the Rumble conversation as of late. Popping up as No. 30 would be an interesting twist, to say the least.
