WWE Universe, meet Scarlett Bordeaux. The Perfect Ten has finally arrived in NXT, the culmination of a journey that has seen the Illinois-born Smoke Show cover plenty of ground in plenty of promotions, with heads turned at every step of the way. For years the feeling has been that Scarlett Bordeaux and WWE are more of a ‘when’ than ‘if’, and that ‘when’ has turned out to be the wretched year of our Lord, 2020.

The significant other of Karrion Kross is a force to be reckoned with in her own right, a 28-year-old with a decade of experience and plenty more to give. A Ring of Honor standout and a recent highlight of Impact Wrestling, Bordeaux has long been destined for WWE, from the moment she took a highly dangerous move in a most questionable outfit.

Yes, there is plenty to learn about the Smoke Show, NXT’s newest femme fatale.

Romanian speakers, you’ll have to fill in the blanks. Before Scarlett Bordeaux there was Elizabeth Chihaia, but Elizabeth Chihaia did not spend her formative years in the Chicago she was born in. She immediately moved (well, was moved, more accurately) to Romania to live with her grandparents, ostensibly to remove her from the struggles faced by her parents as they tried to eke out a life in the United States.

The future Scarlett returned to the US at the age of four, Romanian first language and not entirely sure what to make of the world around her. Romania and the US are two very different countries, a statement that is even more accurate when judging by 1995 standards. Romania was still finding its way in the post-Ceaușescu-landscape, grappling with the same politicians and economic distress. The US was coming to terms with being the world's sole superpower.

The young Scarlett was a quick learner, standing out in a local choir and picking up English as she sang, hanging out with skater kids all the while. She’s not forgotten her roots and remains Romanian first language to this very day. WWE’s first Romanian superstar? Quite possibly.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
