10 Things You Need To Know About Perro Aguayo Jr

10. A Famous Father

El Hijo del Perro Aguayo comes from Lucha Libre royalty. His name literally translates as 'The Son of Perro Aguayo'. This is a common thing in Lucha, with the son of a famous Luchador often taking adopting the 'El Hijo del' name in order to continue the legacy of their father (and to make money, of course). Perro Aguayo Sr. was a huge star in Mexican wrestling in the 1970s and 80s. A hated Rudo (villain/heel), he eschewed traditional Lucha high-flying theatrics in favour of a realistic and often bloody brawling style. As evinced by the ugly grooves on his forehead, Aguayo was not adverse to blading during these wild brawls. Aguayo, who was one of the last rivals of Lucha legend El Santo, may be familiar to WWE fans due to his appearance at the 1997 Royal Rumble or for his appearance on the WCW co-promoted AAA When Worlds Collide pay-per-view from 1994, where he met Konan in a steel cage main event. Aguayo was a big star, alright. Having retired in the mid-2000s he has been in poor health in recent years. He was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame in 2012. It's interesting to note that Aguayo Sr. never wanted his son to become a wrestler and tried to push him in another direction. Junior was intent on wrestling since the age of seven and defied his father's wishes.
