10 Worst Main Events In WrestleMania History
5. Hulk Hogan Vs. King Kong Bundy (WrestleMania 2)
If the inaugural WrestleMania was the perfect example of wrestling and celebrity coming together to create an extravaganza of sports and entertainment, WrestleMania 2 was an example of too much of a good thing.
Emanating from three locations and with too many B-level celebrities involved, the show paled in comparison to its predecessor from top to bottom, including a main event that failed to capture the fun and spectacle of the year prior.
King Kong Bundy, managed by the great Bobby Heenan, had injured Hulk Hogan heading into the match, casting doubt over The Hulkster's ability to successfully defend the WWE Championship he had held for two years at that point.
The steel cage match, months in the making, was the epitome of the formula that would come to be a staple of Hogan's matches. Bundy beat him down, working the ribs in an attempt to finish the myth of Hulkamania off once and for all. Instead, Hogan fought his way back into the match, as he did numerous times throughout his career, and ultimately escaped the steel structure to earn the victory.
The one-dimensional match lacked any real sense of drama as the likelihood of Bundy becoming the face of WWE, even for a short period, was highly unlikely. The result? An ice-cold main event that failed to captivate audiences the way the hotly anticipated match at the first event did.
