Possibly the most divisive match in company history, the WrestleMania 12 Iron Man Match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels is either a 60 minute scientific masterclass or an over-indulgent bore, depending on taste.

Objectively, the contest is reasonable. It's technically sound, and so finely tuned that Hart famously spoke of looking at the clock late in the match to see the exact time he expected for the spot they had reached.

Subjectively though, a match between two of the finest performers in the history of the industry just shouldn't be so dull.

It gets worse with age too, as many (slightly inferior) superstars have attempted the Iron Man match with far greater success, and other non-stipulated hour-long clashes have delivered substantially more action over the gruelling timeframe.

Regrettably, the match became the first victim of the growing distaste between both men, with personal politics impinging on a contest where both could have afforded to show weakness and suffer a fall.

More so than their understandably emotive clash at 1997's Survivor Series, this match exhibited the cynical unwillingness for both to let go of their egos for the good of the product. Amazingly, their 1992 midcard feud resultantly remains their best collective effort.
