10 WrestleMania Rematches That Were Better Than The Originals

5. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels, Monday Night Raw €“ April 23, 2007

An injury to Triple H at New Year's Revolution 2007 meant that "The Game" would miss WrestleMania 23, and as such, his rumored rematch with John Cena was off the card. Instead, his D-Generation X partner, Shawn Michaels, filled in in the main event of the show, taking Cena to the limit in a great contest that saw reversals, false finishes, and drama galore. Finally, it was Cena who won, catching HBK in the STF and forcing him to tap out, just as he had done to HHH a year earlier. Though Cena and HBK were uneasy allies (a relationship which saw them capture the World Tag Team Titles), Michaels needed to prove to himself that he could best Cena. On a London-based edition of Monday Night Raw airing on April 23, 2007 (Cena's 30th birthday), the two would clash once more, in non-title action. At the top of the second hour, the two masters of the art met in the center of the ring and began to have a classic exhibition. The match stretched through a commercial break, then another. The announcers relayed the message that the scheduled main event, Randy Orton versus Edge, would have to be canceled due to time constraints. The match continued, the live crowd and TV viewers realizing they were seeing something truly special. Finally, near the 60-minute mark, Michaels caught Cena with Sweet Chin Music and pinned him. He had proven he was Cena's equal, and the result was a contest that would never be forgotten.
