10 Wrestlers Who Could Win Their First World Championship In 2020

1. Kota Ibushi

One of the most gifted, most imaginative and most downright bizarre wrestlers of this generation, Kota Ibushi finally grew up and signed a lifetime deal with New Japan in 2019. He was rewarded with a short but compelling Intercontinental Title run that led to some of the most dangerous matches in the history of the promotion with Tetsuya Naito and a G1 Climax victory.

Completely split from Golden Lover and wrestling soulmate Kenny Omega, Ibushi has effortlessly stepped into the role of New Japan’s leading babyface act (as over as Naito is, the guy still spits and cheats and disrespects everything). Putting on epic matches with just about everyone New Japan had to offer this year, Ibushi will be marching into the Tokyo Dome to battle IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada on January 4th. Should he win, a double title match awaits him on the 5th.

Many believe he will fail on the 4th so that Okada may wrestle career long nemesis Naito on the 5th (New Japan’s most popular rivalry among domestic audiences). Even so, Ibushi will be the favourite to dethrone the winner of that clash later on in 2020 and fully cement himself as the lead star New Japan have always wanted him to be.
